Amma's Birth Star Celebration

Tuesday, September 28, 2010

Amma’s birthday was celebrated at the DC ashram with great joy and devotion on Tuesday, September 28th, 2010. It was the day of "Karthika" in the month of "Kanni" on the Indian calendar. Ashram saw Amma’s children joining in from 6 pm itself. The hall was fully occupied by the time program began at 7:30pm. As always, Amma looked enchanting on the altar, decorated with flowers, garland and lamps.

The program was led by Br.Ramanand which included a brief narration about the events that took place in Amritapuri during Amma’s birthday celebrations, meditation, Manasa pooja, Guru Padaduka pooja, bhajans and arati. Everybody, present, was fortunate to personally perform abhisheka - the holy bathing of Amma’s paduka.

The bhajans ended with Amma’s traditional birthday song - Innallo Karthika Naal, enamma piranna naal which means - "today is the day of karthika, the day my mother was born."

The most memorable part of the evening was getting a candy blessed by Amma. One of the devotees had recently visited Amritapuri and Amma had sent candy with him for Her children in the DC ashram. Interestingly, the candies were just enough for the people who attended the program and a few more for the regular satsang comers who could not make it. Amma’s calculations are always perfect.

Prasad that was offered to Amma was then distributed amongst all devotees.
